•Do I need to know anything about My Little Pony to play this game?
No! You absolutely don't. Midnight takes place in its own continuity and locale, and while being a fan of the source material helps, it does not hinge on it. Give it a chance even if you're not into ponies at all, you may be surprised.
•Do I need to know anything about MUDs to play this game?
Not really! Midnight is built on an extremely accessible and intuitive engine; it is about as 'modern' as a text game can get. Visual colored minimaps assist in navigation, an 'examine' verb eliminates syntax-guessing, and reactive and detailed world makes it all feel alive. Even if you're intimidated by the text medium, give it a shot! You won't find a better starting point.
•How do I actually play?
Download a MUD client (Mudlet is recommended!) and connect to the server address linked on the homepage.
•Is this game for little girls?
Midnight, Equestria is a setting and game designed for adults. It does not contain overtly sexual content, nor is it encouraged as a 'hook-up' MUD. It is a setting steeped in horror and danger, however, so if you decide to dig in that direction, violence is to be expected.
•What's this game's focus?
Roleplay, slice-of-life, crafting, and combat. Roleplay is always the game's main appeal, given it is an RPE game, but it is far from all the game has to offer. We believe that roleplay is best backed up with rich mechanical depth to support it, so we put a lot of work into the systems at play and how they interface with one another. Expect lots of things to collect, zones to explore, monsters to fight, and extensive trees of craftable items and equipment.
Or, if you want to build a house, bake bread, grow a garden, ferment wine, and fish, that's fine too! Midnight is just as much a cozy pony-life simulator as it is a hardcore dungeon crawler.
•RPE? What's that?
Roleplay Enforced. While playing Midnight, Equestria, it is always expected that you will be in-character, and there are some small rules on what is allowed to be discussed or spoiled on the game's main communication channels. However, players are encouraged to ask questions and learn through OOC chat - It's not that serious! We're all playing a game, and you can always excuse yourself from roleplay if you wish.
•Is this game grindy?
Somewhat, not overly! It is designed for different playstyles in mind - Those who wish to put in effort to grind skills may do so at their own pace, or more laid-back players may simply rely on repeatable daily jobs to slowly increase their skills. There's no rush!
•Okay, stop couching. I'm a huge horse enjoyer. What's the setting, actually?
You are a little pony (or zebra, or changeling, or griffin...) living on the Skyline peninsula of Equestria. Nightmare Moon has shrouded the world in eternal night, and monsters have started to encroach on the land. The world has become far more dangerous than it was before. You carry on during the hours of twilight and darkness, living your life as you see fit.
•Do I get to be Twilight Sparkle?
No, I'm afraid not. 'Canon' characters are not available for play.
•Is there a wiki for this game?
If there is, we do not endorse it. Midnight's mysteries are intended to be discovered in-character. We have no interest in dictating what ponies are allowed to do outside of the game, but we do nicely ask that the experience we've spent many hours building not be spoiled.
•Is there any generative AI used in the development of this game?
Absolutely none. Every bit of art, code, and writing in this game (and related entities) is done entirely by hoof. No amount of generative AI will ever be used in this project.
•I have other questions!
Feel free to ask on our Discord, or in-game gossip chat. A variety of helpfiles that go over specific subjects in more detail are also available in the game.
